Central Market - Malay Street

Meet few friends from different country and feel like to get them some of the

Malaysian products as a souvenir such as handicrafts, batik, art, kebaya, songket or other.

Where should I get all these Malaysian vain products.

Central Market is a one of the top shopping center for Malaysian products

and the wide variety of Malaysian cuisine and couture.

 Central Market is located at Jalan Hang Kasturi, a few minutes away from Petaling Street.

It was found in 1888 and originally used as a wet market, 

while the current building was completed in 1937.

It has since been classified as a Heritage Site by the Malaysian Heritage Society 

and it is now a landmark for Malaysian culture and heritage.

The colourful Malaysian Traditional Cultural and Arts events are 

presented at the Central Market Outdoor Stage. 

Central Market celebrates all the Traditional Festivals of each race in Malaysia, example,

Hari Raya Festival, Chinese New Year Festival, Deepavali Festival, Punjabi Festival and lots more.

Besides that, Central Market supports the local contemporary arts such as Art Exhibition,

Video Screening, Independent Music Concert and lots more in The Annexe Gallery.

One of the three shopping streets on the ground floor of the popular Central Market, 

Lorong Melayu (Malay Street).Which is the street that I like it really much.

I enjoy and feel so good when walking in the street. I love Malay couture.

Malay Street full of little shops specializing in local handicrafts and products.

Colorful batik fabrics, unique shadow puppets, buffalo skin kites, 

beaded jewelry and woven bamboo baskets are all found in the street.

  and not to forget some stores like Sabah to shop for hand, carved wooden masks and souvenir blow, 

guns made by the aboriginal people of Malaysian Borneo.

The Central Market is also a great place for an introduction to other facets

of Malay culture like fashion, dance, and music.

Dance Aloha! We required to wear on the flower wreath and say Aloha!

This is the ever first store that owned by both Chinese that I saw in Malay Street.

They are just so friendly and kind to everyone that visited their shop.

It’s really a different Central Market with a fresher and brighter feel,
every Malaysian should know and feel about it, and a really great place to experience for tourists.

Lorong Melayu ( Malay Street) is to denote all things Malay sold along this lane, and so forth.

Proper signs have been put up at the start of each street with respective 

custom made so that to enhance the character of each thing.

China arts is in Malay Street too. Awesome!

She told and taught us that the hand sign of  "six" means Aloha! =D

Central Market is a proposed exercise to give,

a building with a 120 years history a new identity to attract younger generations

to appreciate the need for racial tolerance and the need for racial integration.

As we all know, Central Market is a historic landmark of Kuala Lumpur and 

there is no other better place to remind the younger generations of the

Malaysian Culture that has been so entrenched that people of all races can come

together to live in peace and harmony.

I just simple love this place, this street of Malaysia that full of Malaysia Couture.
